The Moray Maras biking tour is a great way to enjoy a challenging sport while learning about the local culture. You’ll see some beautiful Andean landscapes while biking, and you’ll also learn about the people who live in the Sacred Valley.
We’ll be visiting a historical archaeological site called Moray. There is an amphitheater made up of several circular platforms, and we’ll also visit Maras, which has 3,000 pools of salt. This was used in ancient times, before the Inca and Colonial periods, and it’s still in use today.
We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 8am and head to Cruzpata, a town in the Sacred Valley. The ride will take about 50 minutes and we’ll pass through Chinchero, a town in the Sacred Valley. From Cruzpata, we’ll leave on bicycles and explore the different landscapes of the Andes, including crops of potatoes, quinoa, olluco, wheat, etc. After crossing the Huaypo lagoon, we’ll arrive at the archaeological center of Moray and take a break for lunch.
After touring the city, we will go to the salt mines. There, we will learn how salt is extracted in a traditional way. We will then go to the Pichingoto Bridge in the Sacred Valley. After lunch, we will return to Cusco.
